PURPOSE OF THE ROLE



To work within the New Products Development team to provide CAD modelling (Autodesk Inventor), drawing and analysis (e.g. FEA) skills to the Development Engineers. To help the department move from Development Engineers who work with CAD Draughtsman to CAD-capable Development Engineers.





KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY


§ To always work in a safe manner without putting himself, colleagues or members of the public at risk.

§ To be able to produce 3D models and 2D detailed drawings of plastic injection moulded, sheet steel components and associated assembled products. Also to supply images for Instruction Manuals and Marketing purposes.

§ To carry out FEA analysis and manage any sub-contracted FEA and CFD work.

§ To assess suppliers drawings and models of proposed injection mould tooling with regard to its suitability for production.

§ To create and work with additional data and documentation as required, including use of the MRP database: DataFlo.

§ Together with Project Sponsors and Product Managers, to help define new product projects; the deliverables and the success criteria.

§ To develop - from concept to implementation - inventive, innovative, manageable and cost-effective solutions to product development briefs.

§ To deliver projects within time, cost and performance expectations. To plan, monitor and control workload and progress.

§ To work in a small team environment led by a Development Engineer, or to manage their own project(s).

§ To principally be a key member in a New Product Development environment.

§ Work with suppliers to co-ordinate project activities.

§ To keep aware of developments in relevant disciplines such as CAD related software and hardware.

§ To carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Group Product Development Manager.

§ To travel to customers and suppliers as required, including internationally on occasion.

§ To support or carry out activities at other Volution Group Companies as required.




SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE



§ Minimum 3 years CAD experience with AutoDesk Inventor and AutoDesk Mechanical, preferably within the ventilation industry.

§ Some experience of FEA and CFD software.

§ Familiar with Drawing Management processes and Data Management systems.

§ Experience of designing ventilation devices or fluid handling machinery. Experience of designing domestic or commercial appliances, including both plastic and sheet metal components.

§ Experience in a product development role, designing for large batch and flow manufacture.

§ Familiar with the CE Approvals process at an overview level.

§ Qualified to HND level or higher in a relevant discipline.
